Talon Lodge Hosts ASMI | Glimpses into Fishing in Sitka, Alaska

When people visit Talon Lodge, they have an unforgettable experience. Often, many of our guests about their experience after their trip. A few years ago, Talon Lodge hosted the Alaska Seafood Marketing Institute’s (ASMI) culinary retreat. ASMI flew in two chefs who prepared freshly caught salmon and other seafood in our outdoor bar area. Many of the guests wrote about the trip, and included stunning photography. We think it’s worth it to visit these blogs: The gorgeous photos of Alaska, and the descriptions of the fishing and the beauty of the area offer a wonderful glimpse into Sitka.

In her post, “The Fish of Alaska,” food writer, photographer, and stylist Béa, writes of the beauty of Sitka, including the layers of fog, glaciers, snow-capped mountains, and the “connection to the earth.” She explores the constitutional mandate in Alaska that requires the sustainability of fishing in Sitka and across the state. A Less Processed Life

The post “Five Things I Learned in Alaska,” written by Susan, a blogger and science editor, explores the “amazing experience” of watching professional chefs cook in our outdoor kitchen. She also discusses how much she recommends Talon Lodge, saying:

“The accommodations were cozy and comfortable, the meals were delicious, the views were stunning, and lodge owners Phil and Gwen – along with their entire staff – were incredibly friendly and welcoming.”

Food blogger Greg also traveled to Sitka with ASMI, and stayed at our lodge. He writes of the experience in his post “Alaska Seafood: Cook it Frozen,” that the “straight from the ocean fish” he ate while staying here was “some of the best stuff I’ve eaten in my life.” He continues, saying this about Talon Lodge:

Marla Meridith offers us a glimpse into fishing and staying in Alaska in her post, “Sitka, Alaska: A Seafood Culinary Retreat.” She speaks of the deep sea fishing the did while staying at our lodge, and discusses how Alaska’s system has become the “world model for sustainability.” She loved staying here at Talon Lodge, saying it:

Cannellevanille

The Cannellevanille blog is written by Aran, a freelance food writer, photographer, and stylist. She also traveled to Sitka, Alaska with ASMI. In her blog “sitka, alaska,” she says she was impressed with the sustainability plan for the Alaskan fish and wildlife. She, too, enjoyed Talon Lodge, saying of the beautiful island that it was a:

“…perfect and comforting experience (I even had one of the best craneosacral massages I have ever had).”

The Wicked Noodle

Written by Kristy, a mom, chef, travel writer and photographer, The Wicked Noodle is a very entertaining blog full of stunning photos. Kristy also traveled to Sitka with ASMI, and wrote about her experience in her post “Cocktails, Fishing, Monkey Hats and More!”. She speaks of the two chefs who were flown into the lodge to prepare the freshly-caught Alaska salmon in our outside bar area. She says of the lodge that the:
